Camping in Ontario

For three years my boyfriend and I have put together an annual camping trip for us and our friends to embark on. Spencer (my boyfriend) is the mastermind behind all the specific details and the whole reason we started doing it in the first place, picks the destinations each year. All destinations are meant for us to explore Ontario a little further than we usually do.

The first year we went to Suable Falls, Tobermory and Collingwood. The second year we went to Sibbald Point and Warsaw Caves. For our third year we went to Erie Shores, Pelee Island and Rondeau Park.

Every year has been a success with 3-4 of us taking a few days off of work at the end of summer, packing up the truck and heading out to sleep in a tent for a few days. If you’re anything like me, you don’t do the woods. I prefer my comfy bed indoors and having available wifi. But for the few days in August I put my high maintenance aside to enjoy the outdoors with my guy and good friends.

A thing that takes the edge off of my anxiety about going camping is that I get to film our journey and make it into a little video. I have done this for all three years and if I have to say so, I have gotten at least 60% better at it. I enjoy documenting the adventures we have to remember when we are old and grey, but to also share our beautiful Ontario to people on the internet. Which is what I’m doing right now.

Below I have included the places we visited this year with a few words to describe our time there and a rate out of 5 stars, and of course my master piece. So, I hope you enjoy and maybe it will make you feel like you should explore nature a little more too.

Erie Campground  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The owner of this campground was amazing, very funny and very nice to us and our site was close to the water. However it was constantly windy, I’m not sure if it’s like that 24/7 because of the water but it was very annoying and it was not the cleanest (in their defence they just took it over from someone else and are in the process of cleaning it up).

Pelee Island ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had the most magical time on this island. The boat ride was about 1.5 hours but it was worth it. I literally felt like I took a step back in time. The shops were so cute, the people were so nice, and we rode around on bikes and saw monarch butterflies everywhere. We rode to a point and got off to hike to the most southern point of Canada, which was insanely beautiful.

Comfort & Soul⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We left Erie Shores at the perfect time as it started to pour rain on our way to Rondeau Park. Along the way we were hungry for lunch and wanted to wait out the rain and found a homemade restaurant. Inside had a husband and wife duo, a whack ton of orchids and a menu you could not refuse. I do not remember the woman’s name for the life of me but she was insanely warm and welcoming with a quick wit. The food was amazing and a very good price to boot.

Rondeau Park ⭐️⭐️

This campground was clean and a decent size but it did not offer much besides that. The washrooms were clean and our site was very close to them, but the beach was hardly a beach, and the trails that were so hyped up had nothing to offer. Overall I was not impressed with this park and wished there was more to do around it.
